Gear is pricey and a waste of gold if you don't need it. You should instead focus your attention on saving your gold for later. At Level 77, you need to be able to get your new flying skill (it's not optional this time around) and you're going to need a lot of gold if you want to raid at all - Level 75 consumables are extremely pricey.

The second thing to consider is that you'll need to level up your professions while you're leveling up your character level.
