Wrath of the Lich King: In Line for the Launch (PC) DateTime:5/23/2012 10:37:34 AM
In 2004, an electronics superstore in Fountain Valley, California nearly became the scene of a riot thanks to a little game called World of Warcraft. Some of them have been here for the better part of two days, waiting patiently to be some of the first to enter the new continent of Northrend. The result is that the front and side of the building have come to resemble a little temporary city as gamers settling in for the long haul set up pup tents and card tables and portable barbecues. At the front of the line, one group of fans is making creatures from Azeroth, such as the reptilian Murlocs, out of balloons. Another group is sitting and playing Magic: the Gathering, while a third is grilling hot dogs and melting s'mores. Buy cheap wow gold here ,we have cheap wow gold for sale !
Blizzard Entertainment, then-new to the world of MMOs, assumed it'd get a few hundred people to show up to the game's midnight launch. Instead it got a screaming crowd of 5,000 souls who lined up in the cold to get their hands on the game. The line of fans curls around the building, stretches across the parking lot and actually extends onto the side of the nearby freeway. Fast forward four years and some things have changed. At the midnight launch of Wrath of the Lich King, the second expansion pack for World of Warcraft, things went a lot smoother. The venue has been moved to a much larger Fry's in Anaheim, and crowd control is much better. The interior of the store is packed with both regular and Collector's Edition copies of Wrath of the Lich king, and the store seems braced for the crush of fans lined up in the parking lot.
